Mitsui Construction Corporation, commenced operations in Sri Lanka by operating a branch office in Sri Lanka in 1977, in order to facilitate the construction of Flour Mill & Jetty Project at Trincomalee and thereafter the parliamentary complex at Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte, Sri Lanka.
In 1984 Sanken Lanka was formed as a joint – venture operation originally registered under the FIAC scheme and then subsequently granted status under the Greater Colombo Economic Commission (for the Present BOI). Having been in operation for well over 18 years Mitsui Construction of Japan divested of its share of Sanken Lanka in 2003 and today Sanken is owned by Sri Lankan professionals.
Sanken ranks amongst the major civil engineering contractors in the field and is ranked CS2 by the Institute of Construction, Training and Development, Sri Lanka under the mandatory registration scheme. It also continually upgraded its practices and also holds the ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 Certifications.
In 2011, after forming numerous subsidiary and associate companies Sanken Lanka rebranded itself as Sanken Construction (Pvt) Ltd whilst remaining unchanged with regard to its ownership and commitment to core beliefs. Currently, Sanken’s diversification programme includes construction-related industries, Civil Engineering constructions, Property Development, Design & Build Construction, and Skills Training as a CSR Project.
With cast iron credentials in high rise buildings and medium scale projects, Sanken Construction has a noteworthy portfolio that includes the Orion Towers, Trillium Residencies, Empire Towers, Emperor Residencies, Capitol Residencies, Aitken Spence Buildings, Capitol Twin Peaks, On 320, 7th Sense Apartment, HNB Towers, DFCC – Kurunagala, HR Residencies, St. Bridget School, Movenpick Hotel, JAIC Hilton, Cinnamon Red Hotel, The Kingsbury Hotel, The Villas – Wadduwa, Nawaloka Hospitals, Asiri Hospital – Kandy, Majestic City Complex, Colombo City Centre, Sriyani Dress Point – Kandy, District Secretariat Building – Narahenpita, Western Provincial Council – Battaramulla and many more landmark projects.
